Study Spanish

Why Study Spanish?

Become part of the global community and learn one of the world’s most widely spoken languages.

As a Spanish major or minor, you can:

  • Study abroad for a semester in a Spanish-speaking country and take short-term travel courses, including ones in Spain and Ecuador (see the photo above by the former student, Gaby Glasser).
  • Boost your skills with language-learning software offered through the Center for Languages & International Collaboration, Â鶹ӰÊÓ’s state-of-the-art language lab.
  • Learn from a Spanish-speaking language assistant on campus. Pacific’s language assistants, many from the Fulbright program, bring relevant cultural aspects to campus.
  • Give back through community service projects and internships with the local Latinx community.
  • Gain first-hand experience teaching languages in local schools.

What Can You Do with a Spanish Major?

Students who study Spanish are prepared to become bilingual professionals with careers in a variety of fields, including law, healthcare, education, international education administration, diplomacy, media and business.

Some Pacific Â鶹ӰÊÓs with a Spanish major have been awarded Fulbright Scholarships for postÂ鶹ӰÊÓ work teaching or doing research abroad.

Center for Languages & International Collaboration

The Â鶹ӰÊÓ Center for Languages and International Collaboration, or CLIC, promotes the development of global-ready Â鶹ӰÊÓs who can communicate effectively across difference.

More than ever, college Â鶹ӰÊÓs must be ready to work and live in a global environment — not only to speak with their global neighbors, but to communicate with them effectively. Language education is about more than memorizing vocabulary — it’s about embracing diversity and difference. Through the CLIC, Pacific students engage with people around the world.
