Application Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree: Completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • GPA: Recommended minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 45 semester credits (recommended).
  • Prerequisite Coursework: Completion of all prerequisite coursework with a grade of "C" or higher. If prerequisites are not complete at the time of application, students must verify they will be complete before beginning the OT program.
  • Observation Experience: Recommended 20 hours of observation experience (paid, volunteer or job shadow). Observation in a variety of occupational settings, such as hospitals, clinics (pediatric and hand therapy), private practice, and schools, is recommended.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Obtain up to three letters of recommendation from individuals who can attest to your skills and abilities related to becoming an occupational therapist (professors, employers, mentors).
  • Completed OTCAS Application: Your online application will include transcripts, observation experience details, letters of recommendation, and essays.
  • PLEASE NOTE: A felony conviction may affect a Â鶹ӰÊÓ's ability to sit for the NBCOT Certification examination or attain state licensure. Individuals convicted of a felony may not be eligible for certification or licensing in Occupational Therapy.

The Admissions Committee considers many factors for admission, including:

  • Interpersonal and self-management skills, which include the ability to assume responsibility for one's own personal and professional development
  • Academic performance prerequisite courses are considered most critically
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing
  • Letters of reference
  • Evidence of observation and understanding of the role of occupational therapy services for clients across the age span and in multiple arenas of practice, including rehabilitation, mental health, and public schools.
  • Completeness of application forms and the care expended in preparing their content
  • General knowledge and self-generated interest in the study of human occupation (the way people use their time in self-care, work and leisure activities)

  • Explore Occupational Therapy: We recommend at least 20 hours of observation experience with practicing occupational therapists in a variety of settings.
  • Talk to an Admissions Counselor: Contact our dedicated admissions counselor to learn more about the athletic training program.
  • Apply through the OTCAS: Submit your application through the . Your application will include:
    • Transcripts from all institutions attended.
    • Three letters of recommendation, requested and submitted through the OTCAS.
    • A record of your observation hours within the application.
    • The general OTCAS essay.
    • A supplemental essay discussing why you chose to apply to Â鶹ӰÊÓ’s School of Occupational Therapy and why it is a good match for your goals.
  • Meet Technology Requirements: The curriculum at Â鶹ӰÊÓ School of Occupational Therapy includes the use of distance education, both through hybrid and a limited number of fully online courses. Students are required to have a laptop computer that meets the minimum system specifications in the and reliable access to high speed internet throughout the duration of the program. The School of Occupational Therapy requires Microsoft Office Home and Student 2021 or the Office 365 Education subscription that is available . Specifically, the office suite must include Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Students must become competent in the use of Microsoft Office, web-conferencing software (i.e., Zoom), online learning management systems (i.e., Moodle), Google Workspace, and the general use of web browsers.
