A Toronto woman who was charged with terror-related offences following an alleged golf club attack at a Canadian Tire store has refused to appear in court for the second time.
Security officers told the court Tuesday that Rehab Dughmosh refused to leave her holding cell for a scheduled appearance before a judge. The officers didn鈥檛 want to physically remove her without a court order.
鈥淪he wasn鈥檛 here to represent her own interests, so not a great deal could be accomplished without her here,鈥� attorney Ingrid Grant, who has been appointed as a 鈥渇riend of the court鈥� to try to guide Dughmosh through the legal process, told reporters.
Dughmosh, 32, was charged with multiple offences in connection with the alleged June 3 attack, including attempted murder for the benefit of or in association with a terrorist group.
Police allege she swung a golf club at employees and a customer at a Canadian Tire in Scarborough. Police also allege she pulled a large knife from under her clothes before store staff pried it out of her hands.
During her first court appearance in June, Dughmosh pledged allegiance to the Islamic State militant group, or ISIS.
Dugmosh, who does not have a lawyer, refused to attend court for a scheduled appearance in July. She refused to appear before a judge for the second time Tuesday.
Grant told reporters Tuesday that she hopes Dughmosh will agree to appear before the court via a video link from her cell on Thursday. If she doesn鈥檛, the judge will have to decide whether an order should be issued to forcibly remove Dughmosh from her cell and bring her to court, Grant said.
