Editing & Publishing

Why Study Editing and Publishing?

Study the art and business of digital and traditional publishing.


As a student in the editing and publishing minor, you will develop your editorial skills through multidisciplinary courses in media arts, literature, creative writing, business, and art. You can gain practical experience by working on student-run publications such as , the bi-annual literary arts magazine, the newspaper, as well on internal publications such as and PLUM: Pacific’s Literature by UnderÂ鶹ӰÊÓs Magazine.

You’ll also have the opportunity to gain experience through on- and off-campus internships with Pacific's MFA in Writing, Literary Arts, the Oregon Book Awards, and others. Editing and publishing minors also have the opportunity to interact with leading editors and publishers in the Portland area through conferences like the Portland Book Festival and Association of Writers & Writing Programs, and roundtable events hosted by the Visiting Writers Series.

What Can You Do with an Editing and Publishing Minor?

Students with experience in editing and publishing are prepared for a wide variety of careers. Our Â鶹ӰÊÓs operate small presses, work as graphic designers, web content writers, and as editors of magazines, newspapers or books. Others use their communication skills to enhance their success in business, marketing, technical writing and other fields.
