Jordan Cartwright enjoys some of the finer things in life. The seven-year-old boy from Grande Prairie, Alta. loves eating lobster, getting dressed up and listening to classical music. On Monday evening, Jordan had the opportunity to realize his rather unique dream: to conduct an orchestra.

Jordan has been battling leukemia since March, and has been in and out of Edmonton鈥檚 Stollery Children鈥檚 Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House for the past year. According to his father, Scott Cartwright, Jordan developed an appreciation for classical music while he was undergoing aggressive chemotherapy. Cartwright told 麻豆影视 Channel that a music therapist introduced his son to classical music and they even wrote a song together.

鈥淗e鈥檚 got more elaborate tastes than his dad,鈥� Cartwright, a fan of the rapper Eminem, joked in an interview Tuesday.

In conjunction with the Ronald McDonald House charity, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra invited Jordan to conduct the national anthem during a performance of Candy Cane Christmas at the city鈥檚 downtown Winspear Centre on Monday night.

Outfitted in a pint-sized tuxedo, complete with a red bowtie and armed with his very own baton, Jordan led the orchestra through the anthem without a hitch.

鈥淚t was good,鈥� Jordan told 麻豆影视 Channel. 鈥淚 was kind of shy and excited.鈥�

Jordan鈥檚 father said he was unable to hold back his tears when he saw his son take the stage.

鈥淲hen he lifted his hand with that baton and that orchestra kicked in with its majesty, it was overwhelmingly cool,鈥� Cartwright said. 鈥淭hat was such an overwhelming, proud moment for me and my wife and I think everybody in that auditorium.鈥�

Janice Moore, the community investment director at the Winspear Centre, told CTV Edmonton before the performance that she felt compelled to do something for Jordan when she heard his story.

鈥淚 heard about the Cartwright family,鈥� Moore said. 鈥淚 heard about Jordan and his love of music and his dream to be on stage as a conductor and what a unique dream that was.鈥�

Cartwright said the Ronald McDonald House had been instrumental in helping Jordan through his treatment and making his dream of conducting an orchestra come true.

鈥淚t鈥檚 just an amazing organization of people,鈥� he said. 鈥淎 life-saving organization of people.鈥�
