Comprehensive Vision Examinations

These examinations are very thorough and take about 90 minutes to complete. They include a number of tests evaluating clarity of vision, eye health, eye movement, depth perception, eye posture, peripheral vision, and eyewear prescription. Examinations also include dilation which allows for a full view inside the eyes.

Vision Therapy

Vision therapy is an individualized program prescribed to improve conditions such as crossed-eyes (strabismus), or lazy eye (amblyopia), and other visual disorders that can interfere with learning. Vision therapy enables individuals to learn, re-learn, or reinforce specific skills including eye movements, focusing, and eye coordination. Vision therapy can also improve visual efficiency for better information gathering and processing and may reduce the need for traditional vision correction such as glasses or contact lenses. Vision therapy is designed to prevent significant visual disorders and eliminate discomfort that may occur with common everyday activities such as sustained reading or computer use.

Eye Disease Management

This service provides additional eye health evaluation, consultation, follow-up care, and management for vision and eye health disorders such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and retinal disease. Appropriate referral to eye or medical specialists is available if needed.

Infant & Pediatric Care

Infants and young children require unique methods for evaluating eye health, clarity of vision, and eye coordination. Infants and children from birth through age six are evaluated for proper development of visual skills. The American Optometric Association recommends that infants receive their first vision examination at six months. Vision screenings and examinations are essentials for infants and young children in identifying and correcting vision and eye health disorders that may hinder the learning process.

As part of our commitment to community service, the Pacific Eye Clinics provide free vision screenings for children under the age of 2. Screenings provide important information about visual clarity, eye health, and eye coordination. They do not take the place of a complete vision examination. Screenings take about 20 minutes to complete and do not cause discomfort. Appointments are required.

Sports Vision

Are you an athlete? For many, when one imagines an athlete, participants of a team sport, such as baseball, basketball, or soccer, come to mind. To others it may be the avid runner, golfer, or tennis player. You may not have considered yourself an athlete, but if you drive an automobile, enjoy photography, paint, cross stitch or are involved in other hobbies or activities, you most likely are utilizing many of the fine visual skills common to athletes. Most all can benefit from increased visual awareness.

Sports vision is a specific discipline of optometric practice focused on the evaluation, remediation, and enhancement of the visual performance of athletes. Sports vision optometrists provide special vision services and materials to help patients maximize their visual abilities, enabling them to perform and enjoy their sport to the fullest.

Through sports vision training many visual abilities can be improved. Increased depth perception, peripheral awareness, eye-hand coordination, ability to track a moving object, and being able to concentrate and perform consistently, even when under pressure, are a few examples. Protective and specialty eyewear is also an important consideration in the sports vision examination. Not only can it be crucial for safety but often can be a key to maximum performance.

If you would like to improve your game, sport, recreational hobby or activity, ask your optometrist to learn how enhanced vision skills and/or materials could help.
