SANAA, Yemen - Yemen's official news agency says the vice-president has called for a presidential vote to be held on Feb. 21 in line with a power-sharing deal aimed at ending a nine-month political crisis.
President Ali Abdullah Saleh signed a U.S.-backed Gulf Arab proposal earlier this week in the Saudi capital Riyadh under which he agreed to pass power to the vice-president within 30 days and hold early presidential elections within 90 days.
SABA reported Saturday that Vice-President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi issued a decree setting the date for the vote after Saleh authorized "the vice-president the constitutional authorities to carry out dialogue with the parties that signed the Gulf initiative."
It says no party has the right to annul or change this decree.
