BEIRUT -- Officials in Turkey say the number of suspects detained in a major anti-terror operation launched three days ago has exceeded 1,000.
Since Friday, Turkey has been carrying out airstrikes against IS targets in Syria and Kurdish rebel positions in northern Iraq. It has simultaneously launched a police sweep against people suspected of links to the Islamic State group, the Kurdish rebels and the outlawed HKP-C left-leaning group.
A statement from the prime minister's office said Monday 1,050 had been detained so far in operations in 34 provinces. It didn't provide a breakdown of the suspects by the groups they are believed to be linked to.
