Prince William is a knight in shining armour to a Barrie, Ont., woman, after he helped rescue her when she fell and broke her leg in North Wales.

Darlene Burton and her husband were hiking along the coast of the island of Anglesey Monday when broke her left leg.

A helicopter was called to transfer the 58-year-old woman to a local hospital, according to her husband Lawrence Oakley, and the chopper鈥檚 pilot was none other than the Duke of Cambridge.

Oakley took to Facebook to update family and friends on the mishap, and the royal encounter.

鈥淒arlene had a bad fall today, broke her left leg in a few places and is having surgery right now. She was doing ok when she was wheeled in and not hurt anywhere else,鈥 Oakley wrote.

鈥淭o make the story even more bizarre we had to be rescued by helicopter and the pilot was Prince William.鈥

Burton has declined to do interviews from her hospital room in Bangor, Wales.

Prince William is a search-and-rescue pilot with the British Royal Air Force and is stationed in Anglesey, where he and the Duchess of Cambridge currently live.

It was only last Friday that the Duke flew another rescue mission in Anglesey, rescuing a 16-year-old girl who was in distress in the waters off Silver Bay.
