GENEVA - The World Health Organization says virus experts have dismissed the theory that the H1N1 swine flu may have originated in a laboratory.
WHO's flu chief Keiji Fukuda said the global health agency alerted experts over the weekend to an Australian researcher's claims that the virus could have been mistakenly released from a lab.
Scientists pored over the evidence for several days before concluding that it was more likely the new virus emerged naturally, as is common with influenza.
The flu has infected some 6,600 people around the world.
