DADAAB, Kenya - Tens of thousands of Somali refugees are being relocated from the outskirts of the world's largest refugee camp to a new settlement.
The UN's refugee agency is moving new refugees to two new camps to ease severe overcrowding at camps in Dadaab in eastern Kenya. The agency says Ifo Extension and Kambioos will accommodate more than 200,000 people. Around 33,000 refugees have already been moved since July.
The three camps comprising Dadaab were originally built in 1991 to hold 90,000 people. They now hold more than 400,000 refugees.
Around 1,000 new refugees fleeing famine and civil war in Somalia arrive each day at Dadaab. A devastating drought has also affected 13 million people in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
