VANCOUVER - A warning issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency could land it in court.
The Los Angeles Salad Company has filed a suit in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver following a recall of packaged carrots issued by the CFIA on Aug. 17.
According to court documents, the company claims the recall was not supported scientifically and was based on inaccurate testing.
It says they lost and are continuing to lose business as a result.
The CFIA recall affected Los Angeles Salad Company Genuine Sweet Baby Carrots sold in Costco stores in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland.
According to the recall, four confirmed cases of shigella were related to consumers who contracted the bacteria after eating the carrots.
Shigella bacteria cause vomiting and diarrhea.
