Prince Harry has released a video message for the service men and women taking part in the Invictus Games in Toronto later this month.

鈥淪ome of you will have already been to an Invictus Games, while others will be taking part for the very first time and may be apprehensive,鈥 the Prince Harry says in the message. 鈥淲hat you will experience in Toronto will be life-changing.鈥

Prince Harry says that the competitors 鈥 all of them veterans and military personnel who have overcome illness and injuries -- will find support from fellow participants.

鈥淭hey will support you and help you,鈥 he says. 鈥淒on鈥檛 underestimate the power of that and please do the same for them.鈥

Prince Harry adds that the many of the athletes鈥 families will be there to cheer them on.

鈥淭he Invictus Games is also a chance to thank them for all their support and sacrifices they have made,鈥 he says.

鈥淚鈥檓 really looking forward to meeting you in September,鈥 the prince concludes. 鈥淚鈥檒l be there in the stands cheering you on.鈥

Prince Harry created the multi-sport competition to honour service men and women in 2014. Invictus is the Latin word for 鈥渦nconquered.鈥

This year鈥檚 games 鈥 the third ever -- will see approximately 550 competitors from 17 countries compete in a dozen adaptive sports including, sitting volleyball, archery, cycling, rowing, swimming and golf.

The games start on Sept. 23 in Toronto, with a closing ceremony featuring Bruce Springsteen on Sept. 30.
