Canadians feel that Olympic athletes receive the right amount of funding from the government, according to a survey conducted for Â鶹ӰÊÓ.

found that 33 per cent of Canadians feel that athletes currently receive the right amount of federal funding, while 32 per cent feel that there is not enough funding. Ten per cent feel that there is too much funding and 25 per cent are unsure.

Early this year, the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Olympic Foundation announced for athletes seeking to compete in the 2016 Olympics and Paralympic Games in Rio. The also provides targeted funding for athletes who win gold, silver and bronze medals.

More than 80 per cent of those surveyed by Nanos also feel that both summer and winter Olympics should have equal priority for funding.

More than half of Canadians also support or somewhat support allowing cities that have previously hosted the Olympics to make another bid for future Games. Twenty per cent of those surveyed are opposed while 19 per cent somewhat oppose to the idea and nine per cent are unsure.

 Methodology

The national dual-frame (land and cell) hybrid telephone and online survey of 1,000 Canadians was conducted between July 28 and Aug. 1. The margin of error for a survey of 1,000 respondents is ±3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
