RIO DE JANEIRO -- Canada's men's field hockey team ended their winless streak in Rio, concluding Olympic pool play on Friday with a 2-2 tie against India.

Team captain Scott Tupper of Vancouver scored twice for Canada, while Akashdeep Singh and Ramandeep Singh had goals for India.

The Indian team, ranked fifth in the world, entered Friday's match sitting third in Pool B, while Canada was in last place.

Canada opened the tournament with a 6-2 loss to Germany. They were shut out 7-0 to the Netherlands, and lost 4-2 to Ireland.

Tupper, a defender, and veteran midfielder Mark Pearson of Tsawwassen, B.C., were competing in the Summer Olympics for a second time, after being a part of the last Canadian field hockey team that represented Canada at the 2008 Beijing Games.

The remaining 14 team members -- including goalkeeper David Carter of Vancouver who was a reserve in 2008 -- were first-time Olympians.

Canada's men's field hockey team captured silver at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto.
