PARIS -- The head of the International Tennis Federation says there is "still an awful lot of work that needs to go on" to have his sport's facilities ready for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in August.

ITF President David Haggerty says in an interview at the French Open on Sunday that when he visited Brazil about a month ago, there was a list of unfinished items, including surfacing the hard courts, changing the lights, installing stands for spectators at smaller courts and "making sure the surroundings are the way we want them to be."

He says the application of another layer of court surface is "right now in process."

Haggerty adds that "we should be fine" by the Aug. 5 opening ceremony. The tennis competition begins the following morning.
