MILAN - The Spice Girls perked up the Milan fashion scene Monday when they turned up at Roberto Cavalli's menswear show to thank him for designing their return tour wardrobe.
Taking a break from their whirlwind tour which began in December, bringing all the group's members together for the first time in nearly 10 years, the pop group had nothing but good things to say about Cavalli and Italian men in general.
"His clothes make you feel sexy," said Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell, speaking for the group as they sat backstage on leopard-printed chairs chatting with reporters before the show began.
The glam outfits Cavalli designed for the concerts are in bright Swarovski beaded silk, and remain true to the playful styles the group favoured the first time around: mini skirts, cropped tops and body-clinging jumpsuits.
Talking all at once like a gaggle of school girls, they sang the praises of Italian men as "very passionate" and "more stylish" than their British counterparts. "Italians are stallions," said Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown, summing it up, and quickly adding, "or so I've heard."
The five-member group, which now could call themselves the "Spice Moms" as they have a total of seven children, said they were having a ball on the tour.
"We appreciate everything much more this time around," Halliwell said.
Another Milan favourite, Giorgio Armani, captured the hottest of the Spice Girl hubbies David Beckham - married to Victoria "Posh Spice" - for the soccer player's current underwear campaign.
Asked what she thought of her husband's super-toned body being displayed in Armani briefs on billboards throughout Milan, "Posh girl" said, "if I looked like that I'd walk down the street in my panties, too."
