TORONTO - Justin Trudeau's wife has announced that she is pregnant and that the couple is expecting their first child this October.
Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau made the announcement on Tuesday night on the CTV program eTalk, where she is the show's Quebec correspondent.
"We're both so profoundly happy,'' Justin Trudeau, the eldest son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, said during the broadcast.
"Each of us has been waiting for this moment all of our lives.''
Gregoire-Trudeau said she will continue working on the show for the time being.
For his part, Trudeau did not give any indication whether the pregnancy would affect his plans to run for the Liberal nomination in a Montreal-area riding.
Justin's brother, Sasha Trudeau, became a father for the first time last year when his girlfriend Zoe Bedos gave birth to Pierre-Emmanuelle in December.
