REGINA - Saskatchewan's chief medical health officer is conducting a risk assessment after five communities were found to have reused single-use syringes.
The communities include Lloydminster, Prince Albert, Weyburn, Swift Current and Yorkton.
Dr. Moira McKinnon says the practice of reusing syringes to administer medication into intravenous lines stopped a few weeks ago.
She says the risk of infection is low and the province is not recommending that any people be tested for blood-borne illnesses.
McKinnon says once the risk review is complete Saskatchewan's health ministry will make the findings public.
Last month, Alberta announced that up to 2,700 patients would be tested for hepatitis and HIV after syringes were reused at a health clinic in High Prairie.
