An activist who attempted to give embattled News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch a real taste of humble pie Tuesday in the British Parliament is a comedian who opposes the electoral system.
The pie hurler apparently identified himself on Twitter moments before the incident by posting: "It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before #splat"
The Twitter account belongs to a comedian who goes by the pseudonym "Jonnie Marbles," and whose real name is Jonathan May-Bowles.
He describes himself as an "Activist, comedian, father figure and all-round nonsense."
May-Bowles reportedly yelled, "You naughty billionaire," while attempting to chuck a shaving-cream pie at the 80-year-old media titan. The pie was blocked by a lawyer and Murdoch's wife, Wendi Deng.
Earlier, "Marbles" tweeted that "I'm actually in this committee and can confirm: Murdoch is Mr. Burns."
Since the incident, his account has gained more than 7,000 followers.
In a May 2010 YouTube video, May-Bowles says he's "burning his ballot because it doesn't give me any say over who represents me at Westminster" and criticizes the first-past-the-post electoral system.
Pie throwing is a fairly common form of protest. Those who have pied include: former prime minister Jean Chretien, Fisheries Minister Gail Shea, Bill Gates and ex-CIA chief William Colby.
