TORONTO - Rogers Communications Inc. has reported second-quarter net income of $301 million, up from a year-ago loss of $56 million, as operating revenue grew 11 per cent to $2.8 billion.
Canada's biggest cable-TV and cellphone operator said Tuesday its April-June earnings amounted to 47 cents per share, compared with a loss of nine cents per share in the year-ago period, when operating revenue was $2.52 billion.
Rogers said its operating profit improved to $1.09 billion, from $930 million a year earlier.
Wireless subscriber postpaid net additions were 92,000, while monthly churn was trimmed to 1.06 per cent, compared with 1.15 per cent a year earlier. Postpaid monthly average revenue per user increased four per cent to $75.48.
Rogers Cable ended the quarter with 745,000 residential voice-over-cable telephone lines, up 41,000 during the quarter. High-definition TV subscribers increased 59 per cent from a year earlier to 455,000.
"The results for the second quarter reflect a good balance of continued healthy subscriber growth, double-digit revenue and operating profit growth, with continued margin expansion," stated CEO Ted Rogers.
