MONTREAL - A Quebec man recuperating in an Ohio hospital could face the death penalty, if convicted of killing his wife and four children.
Michel Veillette, originally from Laval, Quebec, is under suspicion for having killed his wife and four children and then throwing himself from the family's burning home.
He has been charged with murder, aggravated arson and four counts of aggravated murder following a fire Friday night at his home in Mason, Ohio.
Prosecutors have not ruled out seeking the death penalty.
Veillette's condition has reportedly stabilized since he was discovered in the family's front yard Friday night with stab wounds.
He has been interviewed twice by police, who spoke to him for more than an hour at one point yesterday.
Canada's Foreign Affairs Department confirms the consulate in Detroit is following the case and providing him with assistance.
Officials believe the Veillettes moved to Mason from nearby Middletown county about two years ago. It's unclear when they left Canada.
Ohio has carried out 26 executions since it resumed them in 1999.
