The public is being warned not to consume certain pear juices for toddlers as they may be contaminated with arsenic.
"Arsenic is a toxic heavy metal that may be carcinogenic and may pose developmental risks to children," the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said in a news release Wednesday.
However, it said there have been no illnesses reported yet from consumption of the products.
The products are President's Choice Organics Pear Juice from Concentrate for Toddlers and Beech Nut Pear Juice from concentrate with Vitamin C added.
The President's Choice product is distributed in the one-litre size, with a UPC of 0 60383 70935 8. This applies to all lot codes.
The Beech Nut product comes in a 128-millilitre bottle. The UPC is Vitamin C added 0 523842 8, and the lot code is 2009 FE 02 A0384B0935.
These products have been distributed across Canada, although Loblaws has initiated a recall.
