One of Justin Trudeau鈥檚 fans is a former prime minister who鈥檚 known him for most of his life, but usually sits on the other side of the political divide: Brian Mulroney.
During an interview with CTV鈥檚 Power Play on Monday, in which Mulroney spoke about the death of former British prime minister and fellow conservative Margaret Thatcher, he also took time to praise Trudeau.
鈥淚鈥檝e known Justin since he was a child. He鈥檚 young, articulate, attractive 鈥� a flawlessly bilingual young man. What鈥檚 not to like with this picture?鈥� he said.
Trudeau is widely expected to be named the next Liberal leader at an event in Ottawa on Sunday.
Mulroney also had a warning for Trudeau鈥檚 political rivals.
鈥淎nybody who 鈥� treats Justin Trudeau with scorn or derision or underestimates him, does so at his own peril,鈥� he said.
鈥淲e鈥檒l see what happens in the future; it鈥檚 a long way from here to there. But no one should underestimate Justin. He鈥檚 a man of some consequence.鈥�
