VICTORIA - British Columbia's former privacy commissioner David Loukidelis has 45 days to develop an action plan on a scathing report criticizing the government's access to information practices.
Technology Minister Amrik Virk says the report slated to be completed Dec. 15 will address last month's findings by current privacy czar Elizabeth Denham.
Virk says Loukidelis is being paid $50,000, and the advice he provides to government will be made public.
Denham's report was prompted by former whistleblower Tim Duncan, who says his supervisor deleted potentially sensitive emails about the Highway of Tears investigation into murdered and missing women.
Denham's report highlights a failure to keep adequate email records or document searches and the wilful destruction of records in response to a freedom of information request.
The NDP has accused the government of systematically deleting emails and today tabled documents suggesting bureaucrats were told to treat records as temporary.
