WINNIPEG - One of two Manitoba Mounties convicted of beating a handcuffed prisoner has been sentenced to jail time.
A judge has given Cpl. Jeffrey Moyse a four-month jail term.
But Court of Queen's Bench Justice Perry Schulman ruled Const. Trevor Ens can serve his four-month sentence in the community.
The pair were earlier convicted of assaulting 22-year-old Conley Papineau.
He was beaten in October 2008 in a bar parking lot in Traverse Bay, about 120 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
Papineau testified the officers punched him in the face and stomach, kicked him in the head then drove him to a rural road where they continued the attack.
