The scoop Producer J.J. Abrams takes Trekkies back to the beginning of this cult sci-fi series, when James T. Kirk and loyal sidekick Spock first take command of the USS Enterprise.
The story The Enterprise's fresh-faced crew heads off into outer space, testing their nerve and their friendships in a perilous new adventure. Look for Chris Pine ("Smokin' Aces") to helm as a young Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto ('Heroes") to play Spock, Eric Bana as the villain Nero and a reprisal from Leonard Nimoy as the older and universally adored Mr. Spock.
The score Fans have been thrown somewhat by Abrams' casting for this new "Star Trek" installment, which, not surprisingly, is aimed at attracting a new, younger audience to the blockbuster franchise. Chris Pine may not be William Shatner - or Matt Damon for that matter. Reportedly Damon wanted the role but was turned down by Abrams because he was too old. But if all goes as Abrams predicts, Pine and company will have Trekkies beaming into theatres for this 2008 juggernaut. |
