The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended their first post-wedding royal engagement on Tuesday, a Buckingham Palace garden party to kick off Prince Charles鈥� 70th birthday celebrations.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are postponing their honeymoon for some royal duty, carrying out their first official engagements as husband and wife. The couple stayed out of the public eye Sunday, the day after millions around the world watched their nuptials. Their honeymoon destination has yet to be announced.

The newlyweds attended the celebration in Prince Charles鈥� honour held Tuesday, six months ahead of his birthday of Nov. 14, because May is seen as a more fitting date for a British garden party than dreary, cold November.

The party, which was held in the gardens of Buckingham Palace and attended by nearly 6,000 guests, honoured the heir to the throne鈥檚 nearly 400 patronages, 20 military affiliations and the charities that he supports.

Dressed in a pale pink dress by British label Goat and a matching saucer-style hat by milliner Philip Treacy, the Duchess stood alongside Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, as Harry spoke in honour of his father. He faltered at one point during his speech to swat a bee away, giving the trio of royals beside him a laugh. 鈥淪orry, that bee really got me,鈥� he joked.

He otherwise made it through the speech addressing his father鈥檚 good deeds.

鈥淚t is your selfless drive to affect change, whether that is to improve the lives of those who are on the wrong path, to save an important piece of our national heritage or to protect a particular species under threat, which (Prince) William and I draw inspiration from every day,鈥� he said.
