A professor with a strong record of predicting the outcome of U.S. elections is now forecasting that U.S. President Donald Trump will be impeached.

Allan J. Lichtman, a political historian at American University in Washington, D.C., and author of a new book titled 鈥淭he Case for Impeachment,鈥 was one of the few influential voices who predicted last fall that Trump would end up in the White House.

Before that, a prediction system Lichtman developed correctly called the winner of the popular vote in every U.S. presidential election since 1984.

In an interview with 麻豆影视 Channel Tuesday, Lichtman said Trump鈥檚 questionable actions before and after he took office could result in impeachment.

Lichtman said Trump still hasn鈥檛 divested himself from all of his business interests, and his family鈥檚 international business dealings could run afoul of constitutional rules.

鈥淭he American people鈥hould not have to guess where the national interest leaves off and Trump鈥檚 pocketbook interest kicks in,鈥 Lichtman said.

He said the 鈥渕ost likely path鈥 to Trump鈥檚 impeachment would be 鈥渢he Russian scenario鈥 and the various investigations into the Trump team鈥檚 ties with Russia.

If investigations by U.S. Senate and House intelligence committees uncover any collusion between the Trump team and Russian hacking attempts to influence the U.S. election, and Trump knew about it, 鈥渢hat鈥檚 a serious crime,鈥 Lichtman said.

鈥淎nd if Trump himself, heaven forbid, was colluding with the Russians, he could become the first president charged with treason 鈥 an explicit ground for impeachment.鈥

Trump congratulated Lichtman for correctly calling his win, but the professor said he has not heard from the president about his latest political forecast.
