A former cabinet minister under Stephen Harper says the newly minted Conservative interim leader鈥檚 support for the convoy in Ottawa hurts the party.

鈥淚t might help the protesters a little bit, but it net hurts the Conservatives,鈥 James Moore told Evan Solomon on 麻豆影视 Channel鈥檚 Power Play Thursday. Moore held multiple cabinet positions in the Harper government, including industry minister.

Candice Bergen was voted interim Conservative leader Wednesday night, hours after the caucus ousted Erin O鈥橳oole.

In Question Period Thursday afternoon, Bergen said Canadians are 鈥渓ooking for an olive branch鈥 from the federal government in regard to the ongoing convoy. She tweeted pictures from a visit with protesters earlier in the week.

鈥淎 this point in the dynamic I think it鈥檚 an ugly burden that鈥檚 winning no friends for anybody,鈥 Moore told Power Play.
