Taylor Swift capped off her sixth and final 鈥淓ras Tour鈥 concert at Los Angeles鈥檚 SoFi Stadium on Wednesday with a big announcement that Swifties had been speculating about for weeks.
During the surprise song portion of the concert 鈥 in which she sang two songs including 鈥淣ew Romantics鈥 鈥 the singer confirmed on stage that her next re-record will be for her megahit 2014 album 鈥1989.鈥 鈥淣ew Romantics鈥 is a deluxe track off that record.
鈥淭here鈥檚 something I鈥檝e been planning for a really, really, really ridiculously, embarrassingly long time,鈥 she said after speaking about how moved she is that her fans have embraced her quest to re-record her first six albums, as seen in videos of the concert posted to social media.
She then directed attention to the large video screen where an image of the album art for 鈥1989 (Taylor鈥檚 Version)鈥 appeared, confirming an October release date.
鈥淪urprise!! 1989 (Taylor鈥檚 Version) is on its way to you,鈥 Swift wrote on Instagram Wednesday night shortly following her in-concert announcement, adding 鈥渢he 1989 album changed my life in countless ways.鈥
With each 鈥淭aylor鈥檚 Version鈥 album, she鈥檚 included a number of previously unreleased songs coined 鈥渇rom the vault鈥 tracks alongside the re-recorded originals, tracks that didn鈥檛 make the initial album鈥檚 final cut. She continued to write in her post on Wednesday that this album is her 鈥渕ost favorite re-record鈥 she鈥檚 ever done because 鈥渢he 5 From The Vault tracks are so insane.鈥
鈥淚 can鈥檛 believe they were ever left behind,鈥 she added.
鈥1989鈥 is arguably Swift鈥檚 most popular album, and marked her transition from country-pop to full pop music, including hit tracks such as 鈥淪hake it Off,鈥 鈥淏ad Blood鈥 and 鈥淏lank Space.鈥
The album earned a total of 10 Grammy nominations at the time, with Swift taking home three trophies for Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Music Video for 鈥淏ad Blood.鈥
Swift announced in 2019 that she planned to re-record her first six studio albums after her former label sold her master recordings. She has since released 鈥淭aylor鈥檚 Version鈥 albums for 鈥淩ed,鈥 鈥淪peak Now鈥 and 鈥淔earless.鈥 After 鈥1989 (Taylor鈥檚 Version),鈥 Swift is expected to at some point release 2018鈥檚 鈥淩eputation鈥 album, and her 2006 self-titled debut album 鈥淭aylor Swift.鈥
The 鈥淓ras Tour鈥 starts back up for the international leg on August 24 in Mexico City. 鈥1989 (Taylor鈥檚 Version)鈥 is due out on October 27.
