FRANCE -- Sometimes stars aren't just like us.

In the case of 鈥淏arbie鈥 star Michael Cera, he鈥檚 a touch old fashioned when it comes to technology.

Cera that he wasn鈥檛 in the group chat with his fellow stars in the 鈥淏arbie鈥 movie, including Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, Ryan Gosling and Issa Rae for one simple reason.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 have an iPhone myself,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 have a flip phone.鈥

That鈥檚 right, Cera couldn鈥檛 even take a photo of Barbie鈥檚 dream house with his throwback phone.

The actor portrays Ken鈥檚 friend Allan in the film and said not being in the group chat made sense for his role.

鈥淚 still think I wouldn鈥檛 belong on [the group chat] anyway, because [my character] Allan is sort of in his own little world,鈥 Cera explained. 鈥淕reta [Gerwig, the director]鈥檚 gift for me when I arrived was a picture disc of NSYNC鈥檚 鈥楴o Strings Attached,鈥 which felt like somehow a real guiding light in the backstory of this character.鈥

It鈥檚 not the first time Cera has revealed he鈥檚 not technologically advanced when it comes to his phone.

He told that not having a smartphone 鈥渋s a conscious choice, because I feel a bit of fear about it honestly like I鈥檇 really lose control of my waking life.鈥

鈥淩ight when people started having smartphones, when it was Blackberries, I had lunch with a friend of mine who was my best friend at the time, and he鈥檇 just gotten a Blackberry, and for the whole meal he was typing emails, and I was sat there lonely and bored,鈥 Cera said. 鈥淪o I had an early aversion to them.鈥

鈥淏arbie鈥 hits theaters on July 21.
