TORONTO -- Dr. Seuss books are topping Amazon charts in the U.S. this week, with nine out of the top 10 books being by the author.
The top four bestsellers on the U.S. version of Amazon as of 10 a.m. EST on Thursday were Seuss鈥 children鈥檚 classics 鈥淭he Cat in the Hat,鈥 鈥淥ne Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish,鈥 鈥淕reen Eggs and Ham,鈥 and 鈥淥h, the Places You鈥檒l Go!鈥.
The author and his books drew the ire of many this week after an announcement by Dr. Seuss Enterprises said they would be pulling six books that portray racist and insensitive imagery.
The books that will no longer be published are not among his most well-known kids鈥 books and include 鈥淎nd to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,鈥 鈥淚f I Ran the Zoo,鈥 鈥淢cElligot鈥檚 Pool,鈥 鈥淥n Beyond Zebra!,鈥 鈥淪crambled Eggs Super!,鈥 and 鈥淭he Cat鈥檚 Quizzer.鈥
According to a statement by Dr. Seuss Enterprises, the decision to pull these titles from publication was made last year after reviewing Dr. Seuss鈥檚 work with a panel of experts.
鈥淐easing sales of these books is only part of our commitment and our broader plan to ensure Dr. Seuss Enterprises鈥檚 catalog represents and supports all communities and families,鈥 the statement said.
The books portray racist imagery of Asian and African people.
None of the six books that will no longer be published are among the top 10 best sellers on Amazon.
In Canada, one Dr. Seuss collection made the top 10 list on Amazon at the time of publication, 鈥淒r. Seuss鈥檚 Beginner Book Collection,鈥 while "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" and "Green Eggs and Ham" were also placed in the top 20.
