VANCOUVER - The B.C. Conservatives have fired a candidate in the May 14 provincial election over comments he made on Twitter involving Nazi dictator Adolph Hitler.

In a Twitter post last fall, Ian Tootill asked "Who's really to blame? Hitler or the people who acted on his words?"

Conservative party leader John Cummins says Tootill's comments are unacceptable and downright shameful.

He says his party believes in a respectful airing of views and Tootill's comments will not be tolerated by the party.

Tootill was running in the riding of Vancouver-False Creek.

He's the second candidate the Conservatives have lost in a week after Jeff Sprague stepped down in North Vancouver-Lonsdale over what the party called a "an unfortunate personal incident."
