PORT HARDY, B.C. - A four-plane flyover marked the conclusion of a memorial service for those killed in a weekend plane crash on Vancouver Island.
Four Grumman Goose amphibious aircraft shot over a Pacific Coast Airlines hangar in Port Hardy where the memorial was held Tuesday night.
Thirty-six-year-old pilot Simon Lawrence of Port Hardy and four employees of Seaspan International Ltd died when one of the vintage 1944 planes went down in thick bush Sunday morning.
Bob Pomponio of Campbell River, one of two survivors, sent text messages to help rescuers find the wreckage in the hours following the crash.
The plane was en route to the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, where the Seaspan employees were to load a log barge.
Tuesday's memorial was off-limits to the media, with a sign out front asking reporters to stay away out of respect for the families.
