WINNIPEG - Manitoba continues to be the hot spot for West Nile virus this year.
New figures from the provincial government show 355 people have tested positive for the disease - up 142 from last week. The numbers are likely to continue to climb, as infected mosquitoes are still present in southern Manitoba.
Most people who contract West Nile - about 80 per cent - have no symptoms.
The majority of those who fall ill develop flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, fatigue and body aches.
In rare cases, West Nile virus, spread by a certain species of mosquito, causes a serious neurological disorder that can lead to death.
