Tenor Luciano Pavarotti, who has pancreatic cancer, will remain hospitalized for several more days to have further tests, Modena Polyclinic said Monday.
Pavarotti, 71, was admitted to the hospital on Aug. 8 because of a high fever.
The hospital statement said that even though the fever is gone, Pavarotti is staying some more days for "the opportunity to conduct further tests related to" the cancer.
The opera star had surgery for the cancer in July 2006 in a New York hospital.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly forms of the disease, though doctors said the surgery offered improved hopes for survival.
At the time of the operation, Pavarotti had been preparing to resume his farewell tour. He has made no public appearances since then.
