(Relaxnews) - Temporarily closed since May 2014, the Pressoir d'Argent restaurant at the Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux & Spa. will soon have a talented chef back behind its burners: Gordon Ramsay.
The British chef has just signed a partnership agreement with the illustrious address, a gastronomic destination. The Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux told Relaxnews that the chef will design the menu as well as select the team that will execute his vision, though a start date has yet to be announced.
One thing is certain, Gordon Ramsay will continue the centuries-old culinary tradition of this epicurean mecca located in the heart of one of the city's toniest neighborhoods.
Before it closed, the Michelin-starred restaurant had been run by chef Pascal Nibaudeau, who helped promulgate the restaurant's legendary reputation built around one signature apparatus: the lobster press. Only five exist in the world, one of which is definitely being put to good use in Bordeaux.
Chef Ramsay intends to create seasonal dishes using the finest ingredients from the local terroir. While langoustines, Aquitaine caviar and Belon oysters formerly made up the menu, it will be interesting to see what the chef, whose cuisine typically involves spices, BBQ-style smoky flavors and revisited basics, will introduce.
Gordon Ramsay's arrival in Bordeaux is not the famous chef's first venture in France. He is also in charge of the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace in Versailles, recipient of two Michelin stars, and as a former apprentice of both Joël Robuchon and Guy Savoy, the ex-football player turned culinary superstar is well acquainted with France and the secrets of its gastronomy.
Gordon Ramsay is the head The Gordon Ramsay Group, whose 25 restaurants around the world have amassed a total of seven stars in the famed red guidebook. His three-starred eponymous restaurant caters to discerning palates in London's Chelsea neighborhood.
