SASKATOON - Federal NDP Leader Jack Layton wants Stephen Harper to fire the agriculture minister over his handling of the Canadian Wheat Board.
Layton says Chuck Strahl should lose his job after a federal judge quashed the Conservative government's attempt to end the board's monopoly on barley sales.
The judge said the federal cabinet doesn't have the power to make such a change without Parliament's approval.
Layton says Strahl has shown no respect for the law, farmers or the wheat board.
Since the ruling, Prime Minister Harper has said the government's push to open up the barley market isn't over.
Layton also called on the Conservatives to bring to the Commons any proposed changes to the wheat board.
