The Liberal candidate for Winnipeg North has been confirmed as the winner of the riding after a recount that showed a slim 44-vote margin over his New Democrat opponent.
Kevin Lamoureux was initially declared the winner after the general election, with a total of 9,098 votes.
Rebecca Blaikie, of the NDP, followed in second place with 9,053 -- a difference of 45 votes.
The judicial recount undertaken by Justice Kenneth Hanssen of the Queen's Bench of Manitoba, found that Lamoureux's total was actually 9,097, reducing the lead to 44 votes but confirming the win.
Following are the other parties' results in the riding:
- Conservatives: 6,701
- Green Party: 458
- Communist Party: 118
Blaikie is the daughter of former longtime NDP MP Bill Blaikie, now a provincial cabinet minister with the province of Manitoba.
Lamoureux first won the Winnipeg North seat in a byelection last November.
The riding was formerly held by NDP MP Judy Wasylycia-Leis, who stepped down on May 1.
The recount leaves the parties with the following seat counts:
- Conservatives: 166
- NDP: 103
- Liberals: 34 seats
- Bloc: 4
- Greens: 1
Two additional recounts are still pending in southern Ontario.
