OTTAWA - Independent Conservative MP Helena Guergis is now on the other end of a long access-to-information wait.
Guergis pressed the government during question period Thursday on why it has taken so long to respond to her request to obtain all her personal files.
Last summer, the former junior cabinet minister formally asked the RCMP to release any files they had produced relating to a series of unsubstantiated allegations levelled against her.
That eventually formed part of a larger request for files under the Privacy Act. Canadians have the right to ask for files that pertain to them from government departments and agencies.
The Privy Council Office, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Lobbying Commissioner's office were all supposed to produce documents.
But a promised deadline of February 28 has come and gone and Guergis has not received any paperwork.
Government House Leader John Baird told the Commons he would do everything possible to ensure that access to information rules were being followed.
Guergis told The Canadian Press she's anxious to get the information so she can fully clear her name before the onset of the next federal election.
The MP for Simcoe-Grey was turfed from the Conservative caucus and cabinet last spring amid a series of allegations revolving her and her husband Rahim Jaffer, a former Tory MP.
The RCMP looked into the matter, but later cleared both Guergis and Jaffer of any wrongdoing.
