SAANICH, B.C. - Amid the finger pointing and name calling of a federal election campaign, Green party Leader Elizabeth May is urging her political rivals to seek a consensus on issues she says are important to Canadians.
May has launched what the Greens are calling a "common ground" campaign that will feature an issue every day this week where she says political leaders should be able to find agreement.
The first issue on May's list is youth unemployment, which she says needs to be tackled with job training and help for tuition-fee debt.
She says there won't be any progress in the country as long as politicians are hard-wired to a state of constant warfare that only discourages people from voting in elections.
The Green party leader plans to spend much of her time during the election campaigning in the B.C. riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands, where she hopes to best Conservative cabinet minister Gary Lunn.
