Why Study German?
Learn the German language and explore the vibrant culture of Germany, the largest European economy.
Pacific students in the German major:
- Complete immersion courses at both lower- and upper-division levels.
- Expand their horizons by exploring the language through the lens of literature, history, philosophy, music and film.
- Work with foreign language teaching assistants, native speakers who assist in language classes, tutor, facilitate language conversation tables, and organize cultural events on and off campus.
- Study abroad for at least one semester in Germany or Austria, or participate in two- and three-week travel courses in Germany and Austria.
- Have opportunities to mentor and tutor in German on campus and teach an after-school language program offered in a local elementary school.
You can also combine your love of German with any other passion at Pacific, graduating with a double major on time.
What Can You Do with a German Major?
The German program at 鶹Ӱ prepares you to interact confidently with Europe’s technological and economic giants and gives you a solid understanding of the region’s cultural and social dynamics. Pacific 鶹Ӱs with a German major work in business, international law, healthcare, computer science, media arts and education.
Some students in the German major and minor at Pacific have received Fulbright Scholarships for post鶹Ӱ work in teaching or research in Austria and Germany and prestigious scholarships to study abroad.
Center for Languages & International Collaboration
The 鶹Ӱ Center for Languages and International Collaboration, or CLIC, promotes the development of global-ready 鶹Ӱs who can communicate effectively across difference.
More than ever, college 鶹Ӱs must be ready to work and live in a global environment — not only to speak with their global neighbors, but to communicate with them effectively. Language education is about more than memorizing vocabulary — it’s about embracing diversity and difference. Through the CLIC, Pacific students engage with people around the world.
