OTTAWA - Canada's top native chief is predicting an uncomfortable summer of protest -- including another national day of action.
An angry Phil Fontaine says plans for a day of demonstrations sometime in June have been accelerated after Tuesday's Conservative federal budget. It commits only modest amounts to clean up dirty drinking water and improve education and health standards on reserves.
The Conservatives say they're already spending about $10 billion a year for native programs and aren't convinced it's well used.
Fontaine points out that the auditor general has said cash-strapped First Nations are over-audited.
A mostly peaceful day of action last June 29 shut down a stretch of Ontario's Highway 401 for 11 hours.
