LOS ANGELES - Leslie Feist is making sure she'll be surrounded by family when she hits the stage at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles this weekend.
The Calgary-bred indie darling (she was actually born in Amherst, N.S.), who is up for four trophies including best new artist, says she's flying in her mother, eldest brother and sister-in-law Sunday morning to share her special moment.
Feist says it was an impromptu decision she made Friday morning when she called her mother in Calgary and announced she was getting her a flight.
She says she told her mother to only bring carry-on luggage because they would get a few dresses in L.A. for her to wear to the bash.
Feist is nominated for best new artist, best female pop vocal performance, best pop vocal album and best short-form music video. She'll also perform her catchy single, ''1 2 3 4.''
Other Canadians up for trophies include Michael Buble, Nelly Furtado, Joni Mitchell, Rush and Emerson Drive.
''I woke up and it just felt absurd that my mom wasn't going to be here,'' Feist said Friday after rehearsing for her Sunday performance at the Staples Center.
''So I phoned her this morning and sprung it on her and said, 'OK, don't say anything. (Give me) 30 seconds; you have to let me talk.' And she was like, 'Fine.' And then I said, 'Here's the deal: I'm getting you a flight, you're coming, I'll see you there, we'll get a few dresses for you so you don't have to think about anything. Fly carry-on.' And she's coming on Sunday.''
Feist then sprung the plan on her brother and sister-in-law in Toronto.
She said her other brother and a sister will be watching the gala with her dad in Toronto, on his big screen TV.
