Canadian hip hop star Drake returns to his "Degrassi" roots and exercises his acting chops in a new commercial shilling his premium American whiskey Virginia Black.
The one-minute commercial starts out predictably enough: A dapper Drake picks up a tumbler of whiskey at a fancy bar, only to behold a beautiful, sophisticated woman dancing before him.
They make eye contact, eyebrows are raised and he swaggers over, ready to make his move.
But at the last minute, the femme fatale passes him by, deflating his game.
"Hey son, hold my drink," says Dennis Graham, Drake's real-life father.
To add insult to injury, dad throws shade at his son's ensemble: "Nice turtleneck," he quips in reference to the merciless taunting Drake received for wearing an oversized turtleneck in his video "Hotline Bling."
Showing off his comedic chops, a humbled Drake exits scene.
Virginia Black is one of several food and drink ventures for the hip hop mogul, who is also a partner for the restaurant Fring's in Toronto, and an investor in a line of premium matcha-based energy drinks from MatchaBar.
Drake's sophomore restaurant project, also in his hometown of Toronto, is slated to open in the city centre and is expected to serve sushi.
