Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe had some tongue-in-cheek fun during a brief stopover in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, tweeting about the friends who failed to meet him, and weighing in on many Canadians鈥 favourite cup of coffee.
When Crowe made an early-morning stop in N.L. during a flight from Europe Sunday, he claimed he was stood up by fellow celebrities Alan Doyle of the band Great Big Sea, and Republic of Doyle actor Allan Hawco. He tweeted two selfies, with no one in the background, and joked that he was 鈥渂attling through the crowds for my public appearance in Gander, Newfoundland.鈥
Can't believe and didn't drive 4 hours to meet me in Gander. Guess I'm partying alone

Crowe, Doyle and Hawco appeared together in the television show 鈥淭he Republic of Doyle鈥 in 2012.
A clearly bored Crowe took to tweeting about the airport鈥檚 coffee.
The coffee at the airport in Gander is better than Tim Hortons . Yes, I said that.

Landing shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday, Crowe鈥檚 plane left Gander less than 45 minutes later. His tweets garnered thousands of shares and favourites. The actor has more than 1.6 million followers and is a frequent tweeter.
"I love Newfoundland .... just sayin'. Wish I could be here longer," he tweeted before leaving.
