Avril Lavigne鈥檚 relationship with Nickelback is well, um, complicated.
On Thursday, the Canadian punk-pop songstress came to the 鈥檚 defence after Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg took a public jab at the group, which is fronted by Lavigne鈥檚 one-time husband, Chad Kroeger.
The offending comment came on Tuesday when showcasing the company鈥檚 new artificial intelligence assistant 鈥淛arvis,鈥 which is voiced by actor Morgan Freeman. After showing how Jarvis can control lights, thermostats and even entertain children, Zuckerberg asks the interactive assistant to play some good Nickelback songs.
鈥淚鈥檓 sorry, Mark 鈥 I鈥檓 afraid I can鈥檛 do that,鈥 Jarvis replies ominously. 鈥淭here are no good Nickelback songs.鈥
Whether it鈥檚 good is a matter of subjective opinion, but the band鈥檚 2003 single 鈥淗ow You Remind Me鈥 was the most played song on U.S. radio in the 2000s, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
To Lavgine, Zuckerberg鈥檚 post reminded her of blatant bullying.
after a brief marriage. On Thursday, the 鈥淐omplicated鈥 and 鈥淚鈥檓 with You鈥 singer came to her ex鈥檚 defence.
鈥淒ear Mark,鈥 she wrote on Twitter. 鈥淸Y]our jab at Nickelback is in poor taste. When you have a voice like yours, you may want to consider being more responsible with promoting bullying, especially given what鈥檚 going on in the world today.鈥
The note was signed 鈥淎L鈥 and features the hashtags #TheJokeIsOld and #NickelbacklHasSoldOver50MillionAlbums.
