MONTREAL - Action Democratique du Quebec Leader Mario Dumont got an early start on the hustings Sunday, charging his main rivals with decadence during an economic downturn.

The leaders of the Liberals and the Parti Quebecois are Quebec's `royal couple,' said Dumont, who enjoy mingling with the rich and famous and who swan around in `golden carriages' making millions of dollars in promises regardless of the financial crisis.

But with his party stagnating in the polls, Dumont has abandoned talk of forming a government, asking Quebecers instead to send a strong ADQ team to the national assembly.

Parti Quebecois' Pauline Marois has put her campaign on hiatus in order to prepare for her first televised leaders' debate this Tuesday while Liberal Leader Jean Charest is campaigning in Montreal.

Dumont and Charest both have three leaders debates under their belts.
