Transfer Student and Changing to a Mathematics Major
A transfer student with a strong mathematics background can complete the mathematics major in two years provided they have completed a sufficient amount of foundational/prerequisite coursework. Ideally, a transfer student will have transfer equivalency for:
- Calculus I (Differential Calculus)
- Calculus II (Integral Calculus)
- Discrete Mathematics (Introduction to Mathematical Proofs)
plus at least one of the following:
- Calculus III (Multivariate and Vector Calculus)
- Introduction to Computer Science
The following two-year plan for mathematics courses assumes that students have this background. Completion of the mathematics major in two years may not be possible for students with a less substantial background. If a student has transfer equivalency for all five of these courses, it is advised that they replace the proposed Math 228 or CS 150 option with an upper-division mathematics course in their first year instead of leaving the entirety of their entire upper-division elective requirements until their second year. Note that Mathematics capstone has a nine (9) upper-division credit prerequisite.
